Legal Education & IP Law — your questions, answered.
How do I register a trademark in Bangladesh?+
We conduct a clearance search at the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), file the TM-1 application, respond to examiner objections and see the mark through gazette publication and registration — typically 18–24 months.
Do I own the copyright in work I paid a freelancer for?+
Not automatically. Under the Copyright Act, the freelancer is usually the first owner unless there is a written assignment. We prepare short, enforceable IP assignments as part of every freelance or agency contract.
Is Bangladesh's data protection law in force yet?+
The Personal Data Protection Act is in draft form. We advise clients to build GDPR-adjacent practices now — lawful basis, DPIAs, breach response — so compliance is a checklist, not a rebuild, when the Act is passed.
